Buff and Coat
A buff and coat is a type of preventative maintenance for your hardwood floor: this process protects the wood and rebuilds the finish so your floor will look fresh and keep durable for years to come.
The Process
A buff and coat involves lightly sanding the top layer of existing finish and then applying a new coat of finish. At Raven, we apply one coat of durable Bona Traffic HD waterbase finish (the hardest on the market) to keep your floor protected. This high quality finish layer acts as a barrier, preventing your wood from being damaged by heavy traffic, ultra-violet light, family pets, and just every day wear and tear.
Common buff and coat questions:
When should I buff and coat my wood floor?
If your floor is showing signs of wear (scratches, scuffs, dull appearance, sun damage) it could be time for a buff and coat. Do not to let your flooring wear through to raw wood before calling us! If there is raw wood, a full sand and finish might be required, which is more expensive. A normal buff and coat will cost less than half the price of a full sand and refinish.
How often should I get a buff and coat?
Depending on the wear, you should have your floor recoated every 7-15 years. Sometimes, homes with heavy traffic need this service more frequently.
How long does a buff and coat take?
Typically, we can buff and coat your floor in one day.
